Meth lab evacuates Santa Fe neighborhood Santa Fe police shut down two blocks of Paseo de Peralta from St. Francis Dr. to Alarid St. after discovering a possible meth lab Tuesday evening. A dozen residents were evacuated just before 6 p.m. because of a chemical smell in the area. A few neighbors reportedly had difficulty breathing in the days leading up to the discovery. State police say a response team has been called to disassemble the equipment. Detectives say it looks as though the lab may have been in use for a little more than a week. Police say the city's Crimes Suppression Unit found the meth lab after receiving information about its location. The recently formed unit has made several other large drug busts around Santa Fe within the last few days including Tuesday morning's arrest of a man selling newspapers caught with over a dozen balloons of heroin. So far, two people of interest have been taken into custody with possible charges pending. No word on when evacuations will be lifted.
