bernalillo county sheriff dan houston is launching a criminal investigation against a handful of deputies from the dwi unit. the allegations-- that they've been padding time sheets. kayla anderson is here with the details. kayla? the sheriff says one of two things will happen here-- either those deputies will be be exonerated... or the cases against them will be handed over to the district attorney. lieutenant jason katz, and sergeants brian lindley and joshua kingsbury are at the center of this investigation, which could have cost taxpayers about 10-thousand dollars. "this investigation is not a witch hunt, it's not a cover up. it's just what the truth is, the truth will be." the accusations center around abuse of overtime funds the county's dwi unit. it's believed the sergeants may have been signing in for the lieutenant, who wasn't showing up for work he was paid to do. the sheriff says that couldiolate three laws including: misusing public money, making or committing a false public voucher and tampering with public records. "these kind of accusations, true or untrue, bring a cloud over the deputies and our department." leutenant jason katz has been reassigned within the department. sergeants brian lindley and joshua kingsbury are both still with the dwi unit. but so far, all three deputies are still on duty. "obviously if information came forward that it was appropriate for us to place anybody on administrative leave or other duties at that time, certainly when i have that information, if that were the case, i would take that appropriate action." it's not clear how far the alleged scam may go back. and e sheriff also says this investigation may get bigger
