governor martinez may be off to a rocky start with democrats -- a number of them were not too happy with some of the things in her speech .... gadi schwartz continues our team coverage with their reaction from the roundhouse. its started off warmly- martinez getting a standing ovation from both sides of the aisle as she walked in ... and many democrats could be seen nodding their heads when she talked about how to trim state government. it's falling on receptive ears minute thumbnail 06:04 pm i've been saying the same kind of things for the last 2 or 3 years and i'm sort of pleased with her approach to getting our arms around this fiscal crisis. but once the rhetoric turned to social issues - like immigration- corrections - and the environment - the left side of the house - basically stopped clapping. i wish the governor well but i was saddened by the punitive tone of virtually ever issue she addressed. one main sticking point- getting rid of licenses for illegal immigrants. it's not like new mexico is doling out licenses to every immigrant that comes into the state of new mexico. "we need to probably enhance the license provision for immigrants not repeal." toward the end of her speach martinez even heard from a few hecklers and in the gallery- many stood wearing pro-immigrant shirts..
