The honeymoon is over at the Roundhouse. On Tuesday, Governor Susana Martinez presented her first State of the State Address telling New Mexicans that she's ready to get down to business. She spent a good portion of her 40 minute speech discussing the budget, and how everyone from politicians to families must expect to make sacrifices, including state educators. "New Mexicans are not fooled with bureaucrats, whose salaries are many times that of the average teacher, claim that the only place to cut is from the classroom," she said. APS Superintendent Winston Brooks sat in front of the governor as she made her speech. As Martinez blasted school districts for wasteful spending, Brooks said he did not think the comments were directed only at Albuquerque Public Schools. However, some elements of her speech seemed to be pointed. "[New Mexicans are not] fooled when a school district spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on PR staff and then claims it has nowhere to cut but the classroom," Martinez continued.
