hour ago -- state police expanded the closure of i-25 south of albuqureque. i-25 is now shut down from belen all the way to t or c. tonight our jeff maher is stuck in the middle of that closure. he's live in socorro where all the hotels are books-- and the emergency shelter is jam packed. the storm definitely left an impression here -- but it's been abnormally quiet impression here -- minute thumbnail 10:02 pm but it's been abnormally quiet here for hours. still, snowplows are busy clearing side-streets and along i-25. and there are plenty of motorists staying here overnight -- stranded, and not being allowed to take a chance on the highway. streets -- turned to ice. ice -- stuck to windows -- and drivers, stuck in the middle of some nasty conditions in socorro. "i just bought it man" deryl dunn just bought this classic 1971 240-z. he drove to socorro to pick it up. now, it's in a ditch. "the road was just so slick, i was going about 25 miles per hour, did a complete turn and landed on the side and i tried to pull it out and that's how it ended up this way" armando dominguez isn't stuck in a ditch. but he's stuck in a motel for the night. he and his wife are moving to albuquerque from arizona. they went through the worst of it near the state line. "it's just terrible, it's a whiteout, you can't see anything, the traffic is bad" locals in socorro say it has not snowed like this for years.
