mayor richard berry unveiled his wish list for city improvements. you'll be able to vote on the 150- million dollar wish list in october. jeff maher is live at a-p-d heaquarters downtown to show us one thing that didn't make the list that will affect the city's police department. we're told the police department's patrol vehicles are in pretty rough shape and are in need of being replaced. but one city councilor says any plans to purchase a new fleet are likely going to be put on hold. the albuquerque police department has been waiting for a new fleet of patrol cars. "after five years, especially out on the streets, eight hours a day, and having to chase people down, there's police chases, vehicles do wear out" but city councilor ken sanchez says the police department's wish may remain just that. the mayor submitted a 150- million dollar capital improvements package tonight. two years ago it was at 160-million. sanchez says it was cut back partly because of the economy. "the needs in this city are great, i mean there's probably a billion dollars in projects if we added it all up that we would like to see done for the city of albuquerque" there are also some road projects that will have to be put on hold. what is included this time around is renovation and upgrades for existing city buildings, including city hall. the money will also pay for the main library to get a new roof, stucco to be replaced at the plaza del sol buildi, bike lanes on lead, a new roof for the main terminal at the sunport, and heating and air conditioning upgrades at city buildings. no big projects -- and a more fiscally conservative approach. "this is not the time to be bringing on projects that are going to require more general fund dollars to operate in the out-years" next week city councilors will add in their own projects to the wish list. one of the biggest projects being considered is to add a 7 million dollar penguin- chill exhibit at the rio grande zoo. live downtown. jeff maher. kob. eyewitness news 4
