February 12, 2011
susana martinez is asking for the public's help to ban drivers licenses for illgal immigrants. today martinez - backed by republicans and the state's only independent representative- spoke in favor of 2 bills making their way through the roundhouse. both would require proof of u.s. citizenship when getting a new mexico drivers license. martinez says she wants new mexicans to call their representatives and voice their support. "people from china, brazil, poland costa rica and even east indians are coming to new mexcio to get these drivers licenses." martinez says the state needs to clamp down on licenses for illegal immigrants for public safety. a watered down version of the bill martinez is supporting died in committee yesterday on a party line vote.
