awmaker is working to end the state's medical marijuana program. republican representative james smith says medical marijuana sends the wrong messagto children. and as you can guess, the effort to shut down the program has some people riled up. jeremy jojola is here with more. remy. there are thousands of people using medical marijuana in new mexico now. representative smith wants to put a stop to that. from cancer patients to people with aids... to veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder--- more than three thousand new mexicans have been cleared by the state to use medical marijuana. representative minute thumbnail 05:15 pm james smith who's also a teacher from sandia park says the program needs to be shut down. "and i'm compassionate about our most vulnerable citizens... our students. i believe its a disservice to our kids to tell them that something like marijuana is good for you. and i would like to see e law abolished." smith says because the federal government considers medical marijuana illegal, so should new mexico.
