UK hunt for failed car bomber
June 29, 2007
Police defused a bomb left in an abandoned car outside a nightclub in the heart of London's theatre district. The device was found in the week that Gordon Brown succeeded Tony Blair as British Prime Minister. Police recovered a large quantity of petrol, gas cylinders and nails from a Mercedes. No further bombs have been found, and it's not clear at this stage who might be behind the failed attack. British counter-terrorism officers have foiled several plots to bomb the UK in recent years. Suicide bombers killed 52 commuters in attacks on London's transport network on July 7th, 2005.
