Controversy over German Cruise film
June 29, 2007
The U.S. actor is set to portray Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the leader of an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the Nazi dictator in 1944. The German Defence Ministry has barred the movie's makers from filming at German military sites as Tom Cruise is a member of the Church of Scientology, which the German government does not recognise as a church. But the head of Babelsberg film studios, where some of the filming will take place, says he doesn't understand the controversy as they have all the filming permits they need.Joanna Partridge reports for Reuters
