lawmakers are trying to get state employees to pay more into their retirement funds. gadi schwartz is live in santa fe with an update for us. the stats budget bill was on hold in the senate. with many senators wanting to see what happens with 100 million dollars built into a retirement swap. today the house passed a bill that would temporarily increase contributions that state employees pay into their retirement funds. under the bill- state employees would see 3.25% more of their paychecks go to their retirement fund starting in july. a year later- those contributions would go down by 1.75% by july 2014 retirement contributions would return to normal. that swap is expected to save the state around 100 million minute thumbnail 05:05 pm dollars. we don't have enough money coming in from our revenue to cover the expenses of this state and so 2 years ago we first did this change in the retirement contributions for public employees now the question is do we continue this or not.
