. the film industry is taking to the airwaves in a last ditch effort to save incentives: "new mexicans need more good jobs." cuts to film subsidies have played a major role in this year's budget debate. and now a final vote is on the horizon in the senate. but lawmakers say the bill has gone through so many changes, it's likely neither side will be happy with the results. that's why the movie industry is reaching outside the roundhouse-- hoping to protect subsidies. gadi schwartz is has the story from the roundhouse. "right now in santa fe they are about to vote on legislation that will close hundreds on new mexico businesses, put thousands of us out of work..." new mexico film has become the lynch pin in the state's budget- earlier this year governor martinez called minute thumbnail 05:05 pm for incentives to be scaled back to 15 percent... saying they needed to save 25 million dollars fothings like education. lawmakers and the industry countered offering a compromise that met martinez's demands with a cap of 65 million in tax rebates that would be paid out over several years. but the haggling didn't stop - the cap was then lowered to 45 million - then raised to 50 million dollars - and the payment plans have been stripped. analysts say that means the bill may fall short of martinez's demands by 8 or 9 million dollars. and new mexico's movie industry says this version of the bill is film killer.
