new mexico's governor has issued a threat to lawmakers. with less than 48 hours left in the session, she says she'll veto their budget bill if they don't get busy and balance it. stuart dyson talked with the governor one- on-one this afternoon - he's here now with our big story from the capitol. lawmakers worked into the early morning hours to finally pass a state budget up to the governor's desk - trouble is the way it is the books don't balance - and the governor says she'll give it the big "v" unless lawmakers fix it fast. " what i'm most concerned about is that i have an unbalanced budget that is sitting on my desk - and this isn't washington dc and i'm not going to sign an unbalanced budget bill - period." the reason it's unbalanced is that lawmakers in the house and senate can't quite agree on details of a bill that would raise 111 million dollars for the state by having state employees temporarily make a bigger contribution to their retirement fund - legislative leaders say they can fix it. " oh - i think we'll get 'em settled - just a little bump in the road - which is typical for this time of year in a legislative session - but i have all the confidence in the worldthat we're gonna work that one out." lawmakers in the democratic majority admit their relations with the state's first woman governor - a republican - are awkward at best. " almost like sparring partners or dance partners - the first few bars of music - trying to figure out are we really going to waltz - or does she want to cha-cha - and i think she wants to cha-cha - and we're mooving at a waltz pace!" " we've been moving at a waltz pa way too long - we've got to step it up - ha ha - otherwise we have to make things happen and happen quickly - we're not accepting this waltz move at all - ha ha ha!" if martinez vetoes the budget it would throw the legislative session into chaos - with less than 48 hours left in the session - making a special session a necessity - but again - leaders say they can fix the problem - at the capitol stuart dyson k-o-b eyewitness news four.
