Hong Kong marks decade under China
July 01, 2007
Hong Kong has marked the 10th anniversary of the former British colony's return to Chinese rule. Hong Kong marked the anniversary of the island's 1997 return to Chinese rule with parades and a pledge by the territory's leader, Donald Tsang to create a more democratic system. He was sworn in for a new term by Chinese President Hu Jintao, who reminded the ex-British colony that Chinese sovereignty lay with Beijing. Thousands of people marched through the streets calling for universal suffrage.
