Flanagan talks about retirement decision, players weigh in

ob eyewitness news 4 is committed to delivering all the pertinent information on any fire that erupts around new mexico--- in our newscasts and on kob-dot-com. as we first told you last night--- head lobo women's basketball coach don flanagan is retiring. he made the announcement today and new tonight--- former players and his associate head coach talk to our eddie garcia about the stunning news. he's here with what they're saying. people on campus that i spoke to are sad to see him go calling him a legend that brought success and prestige to the program. many can't believe how suddenly it happened - including his own associate head coach. the reality is sinking in minute thumbnail 10:06 pm that he's not going to be here next year. coach don flanagan says he's retiring partly because 5 freshmen quit the team after saying they were under too much pressure this season. he says he was planning on retiring at the end of next season anyway - and this loss sped up the process. i wish i could play basketball and watching them do that just makes me kind of sad. desiree baca says she's been around the coach since she was a little girl going to basketball camp and is disappointed about the situation.
