A Four Corners school district had a phone conference with the Public Education Department over state audits on Tuesday. Aztec Municipal Schools is one of two districts in the Four Corners picked to go through the audits. State education officials singled out 34 districts that exceeded the statewide average of growth by at least 200 percent. Superintendent for Aztec School district, Kirk Carpenter, said they were red flagged because of an increase in their developmental delayed program. "We don't have anything to hide so we sent them all the information they asked for plus some other information we felt would be relevant for them to look at as an audit committee because it's important…first of all to have transparency. We need to do everything we can to cooperate," said Carpenter. District officials said they should have a final answer about the audit from the state next Wednesday April, 27th.
