The Clovis School Board has unanimously voted to ban all extra-curricular clubs from meeting during school hours. Extra curricular clubs will now have to meet before or after school, while clubs deemed to be curricular can still meet during school hours. The ACLU claims this whole issue came up after a proposed gay-straight alliance club was introduced at Clovis High School. One of the students behind the alliance say the group wants to meet during school hours and plans to fight the district's decision. "I realize [the superintendent] said we would be allowed to meet after school, if it was approved, but I'm not sure it will get that same respect as curricular clubs or even if it will be acknowledged as a club at school," said Steven De Los Santos, a student at Clovis High School. The superintendent says the school district was in the process of reviewing all policies and it was a coincidence that the controversial club was introduced at the same time.
