Woman to head Japan's military

Japan's first female defence minister has vowed to strengthen the country's already close ties with the United States. Yuriko Koike also wants to improve working conditions for women in the nation's military. The 54-year-old former tv presenter took over after her predecessor resigned for remarks appearing to condone the 1945 U.S. atomic bombings of two Japanese cities.
