a fifth grade a-p-s teacher is behind bars tonight accused of sending sexual photos and text messages to one of his former students. new tonight - the 11 year old girl's father--who discovered the messages-- talks to our eddie garcia. he joins us live from edward gonzales elementary where the teacher works. this letter went out to parents today letting them know at fifth grade teacher jacob lawler is out on paid leave. he's now being investigated for sexting an 11 year old girl. the victims father spoke to us today on the condition that we conceal his voice and identity. constant texting by his 11 year old daughter got this father's attention yesterday evening. he asked who she was talking to - her response set off an alarm. when she ran away from me i knew there was something wrong and i noticed that she had to be deleting because she was just going crazy on that phone. minute thumbnail 10:01 pm his daughter locked herself in the bathroom - he unlocked the door and took the phone. he wasn't prepared for what he was about to see. i was furious when i went through the text messages and i just got more and more and more. he called police. police say those text messages were from the girl's former fifth grade teacher - jacob lawler. lawler asked to see her genitals and offered to show his - in one text he said he would send a photo of him and his wife in sexual contact and suggested he and the girl could possibly take a picture doing the same. it's a violation of the trust between him and the kid and parents - we knew him. he says lawler had all of his former students cell numbers from a field trip last year. he said parents considered him to be an excellent and charismatic teacher and said the students loved him. he says in a way he's glad he discovered the texts when he did. minute thumbnail 10:02 pm it could have been a lot worse, there could have been physical contact. that's my baby and nobody wants their baby to be a victim at all. he says this should be a warning to all parents. i used to think that oh you don't have to really go through their text messages, we don't really have to be that nosey into their business' - but sometimes you do to protect your kids. the father tells me he will send his daughter to counseling to help her through this ordeal. in the meantime, lawler remains on paid leave from his job here at the school. live at edward gonzales elementary, eddie garcia kob ewn4.
