investigators say the 14-year-old boy who confessed to setting a fire in the bosque last night will be arrested. tonight we are getting a listen at what some of the people who spotted the fire had to say as they quickly dialed 9-1-1. cristina rodda is live in downtown albuquerque to show us just how this happened, cristina? fire crews and police are patrolling the bosque day and night... but it wasn't enough to keep the 14-year-old out. now he's looking a possibly felony charges for starting last night's bosque fire. caller: "there's a fire on tingley beach" dispatch: "you do see flame and smoke?" caller: "i saw flames and smoke... and i saw a little kid on a bike passing it." police say a 14 year old boy confessed to starting last night's bosque fire- that set off a frenzy of 911 calls dispatcher: "what's burning?" caller: "the actual shrub near the edge of the bosque by the bike trail." dispatcher: "engine 7 respond to the tingley beach area of the bosque." investigators say the boy used a lighter-- and set the fire on purpose. on purpose, wow that's terrible. they haven't been taught anything from their parents.they were here alone that's the thing. fire chief james breen says the boy was alone-- and must have jumped over a fence at some point and into the bosque. in just a matter of minutes the 8 foot tall flames burned an acre and a half in the bosque. "this is a prime example of how dangerous it is. one ignition source small area quickly grew within an acre in 5 to 10 minutes." the boy was caught near the fire and detained by police--ow it's just a matter of time before a warrant for his arrest is issued. "i'm losing sleep over this." the chief is disappointed -- there's been a major push to inform the public about the fire restrictions. "we are a city based on redemptions depending on the circumstances we will either come down hard or work with the family to get through this." it's been nine years since joe candelaria visited the bosque and tingley beach. today he brought his grandchildren and he's grateful it's all still here. "that would have been terrible, it would have been very difficult to explain to them." open space is currently putting together the cost to rehabilitate the area that burned.
