remain on alert--- shifting their attention from fires to floods. we checked back in on the orchard today to find out what's being done to prepare. eddie garcia reports. becky mullanedixon orchard the scars of the las conchas fire are a constant reminder to dixon apple orchard owner becky mullane - that the crisis hasn't gone away. we've already had one bad thing happen and that's the fire and so now we're preparing for the next disaster the flood that comes after the fire. they've been excavating an minute thumbnail 10:15 pm almost two mile ditch along a creek bed since friday to keep flood waters out of the property. the goal is that the water can escape through the canyon without any more damage done. the state is supplying these concrete barriers installed by sandoval county to create a line of defense in low lying areas. for mullane, the damage is unbelievable. we've lost structures, we've lost 300 apple trees, there has been damage done to the land. it's a tough time for the dixon apple orchard -- but they say they will continue to work as long as it takes to protect what's left. we don't have anything left to hold back the infall - the debris is just going to be coming down from all sides now. eddie garcia kob eyewitness news 4. on august 27th.... a benefit will be held to help the mullane family. it will be at the santa fe performance exchange in eldorado. the event will include music, food, a raffle and a silent auction.
