former santa fe sheriff greg solano pleaded guilty to stealing from the sheriff's department and selling the equipment on e- bay... gadi schwartz is live in santa fe with the details of solano's plea deal. the state says it wants solano to spend 8 years in jail - and they want more than a hundred thousand dollars to be paid back to taxpayers. this afternoon- former sheriff greg solano- sat in front of about 20 supporters inside a santa fe courtroom. originally solano faced 251 counts of embezzlement, for stealing county equipment like bullet proof vests and selling them on ebay. under the plea deal those charges were consolidated down into 5 felony counts of fraud. solano pleaded guilty to those charges today. afterward he read a written statement but wouldn't answer any questions. today is the first step in doing what i always said i would do and that is take responsibility for my actions. i want to apologize again to the community, my friends and my family, the sheriffs office and the cnty of santa fe. no word how much money solano will have to pay back. the state argues that he stole over 70 thousand dollars and should also have to pay for a 60 thousand dollar audit. solanos lawyer argues he stole more like 25-thousand dollars.
