our newsroom--- upset about a mother trying to give away her newborn. that baby is now in state custody after police say the woman went door to door trying to to give the infant away. this story has many of you in an uproar. sharon erickson joins us with what's going to happen to the baby. antoinette... we received dozens of calls into our newsroom and comments on our website about this story. and many of you are wondering-- what's going to happen to the 13-day old baby from grants? the state's "children, youth and families department" was scheduled to hold an emergency minute thumbnail 12:00 pm hearing in grants this morning to give temporary custody of the baby to the state of new mexico. police say 26-year old michaela marshal went door- to- door in grants trying to give away her infant. she was eventually arrested... after a woman called police... she was eventually arrested... after a woman called police... concerned for the child's safety. the state fast-tracked today's custody case... and will now have 60 days to decide if the baby should be placed with a responsible relative ... or if it will remain in foster care. "some parents are able to make the necessary changes in their life to be able to parent in a healthy manner. and some parents can't." police say marshal was drunk-- more than 3 times over the legal limit when she was arrested at a gas station. she's been charged with child abuse. c-y-f-d says though it was a terrible situation... at least the baby wasn't harmed and is now in good hands. minute thumbnail 12:01 pm and they want to get the word out about the state's "safe haven laws"-- marshal was arrested right next to a hospital where she could have legally dropped off her baby without facing any criminal charges .
