one of the state's most respected schools is about to get a major facelift. joe bartels is live in roswell with the multi-million dollar plans for the new mexico military institute. joe? nmmi officials have unveiled a plan that will take the 120 ar old military school in roswell to the year 2020 and beyond. the 65 million dollar project calls for many improvements aimed at curbing a decade of declining enrollment. the plan called is-- nmmi 2020-- and it sharpens the schools focus towards growing it's cadet population and retaining current cadets. "it'll create a lot of jobs we hope. it's about 65 million dollar plan over the next 10 years. it includes new buildings on the campus, new housing for students." numbers provided by the school show for the first time in years, enrollment was up in 2010 and with improve facilities-- they hope to attract even more cadets. "we hope so, last year we have about a 16 percent increase in enrollment and this year i think we'll be right at the same level again." the plan calls for adding a new wing to existing student housing which would bring the total number of cadet beds to 11 hundred. more cadets means more cash. "'we average about 10,000 dollars per student in tuition, so an additional 125 students is a million, 250,000 in revenue each year." the increased revenue from tuition would help provide some of the cash needed for a new rotc building, maintinence facilities and football field improvements. "and probably the center piece that everyone is talking about is the idea for the 3500 seat event center." nmmi officials will sell bonds to raise as much as 15 million dollars along with other bonds issued by the state. to pay for the proposed event center, nmmi officials could partner with the county to propose a sales tax increase, but that would have to be approved by voters
