August 05, 2011
we talk to the city of albuquerque's inspector general. today he agreed to investigate actions taken when darren white's wife crashed her porsche. fallout from the crash led the former public safety director to retire early. cristina rodda sat down with the inspector general to talk about the investigation. she's live at city hall with the story. he's only been in office four weeks-- and the city's inspector general is eager to get this investigation started on monday. neftali carrasquillo says there are several things he will likely look into including: kathleen white's crash on july 6th, the actions of the medical healthcare workers who responded and darren white's actions. white came under fire for showing up at the scene. he waited a half hour before taking his wife to the hospital, instead of letting an ambulance take her. white has argued his wife had a seizure ... and says someone leaked her medical records to the media. just monday night -- the city council unanimously voted to have the inspector general review the case. he has subpoena powers in his letter to the city-- carrasquillo promises an investigation that will be done in an objective, and fair manner and without bias. like i said come to a conclusion as to what happened. my job is not to prove innocence or guilt, it's strictly and only to report the facts. carrasquillo says he met with the accountabiliy in government oversight committee to decide whether he should take the case. he says the two reasons they decided it should be done are: the public interest in the results. and because a lot of city business is slowed down until the results of this investigation are completed. the inspector general is not saying how long this investigation will but says it won't cost tax payers any money
