Victims of shooting rampage remembered six years later

it's been six years since a cross town shooting rampage horrified people across albuquerque. police say diagnosed schizophrenic john hyde killed five people ... including two police officers who went to his home to pick him up for a mental evaluation. antoinette antonio reports on how the fallen officers were remembered today. nats a solemn ceremony this morning... to honor the lives of officers richard smith and michael king. today's memorial service -- at the corner of gold and ash -- where on august 18th, 2005... they went to pick up john hyde, a diagnosed schizophrenic. "i was on the radio at that time and i can vividly remember hearing officer down and it just gives you a sick feeling in your heart, in your soul." police say hyde gunned down the two officers... as part of a cross-town shooting rampage. officer king's son -- remembers the day very clearly. "it feels just like yesterday, you still remember him and everything. it never leaves your mind so.. but he's still here with us so that's what keeps us comforted usually" what officers smith and king didn't know... was that hyde had already gunned down d- o-t worker benny lopez. he also killed motorcycle shop workers david fisher and garrett iverson. "i cant stress it enough how good of a person he was and how good of a father he was, he was the best father i can imagine. two brave officers in the thoughts of every police officer here today... along with the other lives lost in a senseless rampage.
