acoma pueblo officials are calling for federal and calling for federal and state assistance after their community was severely hit by flood waters. an emergency shelter at their elementary school is on standby as families are being forced to abandon their homes. eddie garcia spent the afternoon with one family that believes their home is a total loss. he joins us from acoma pueblo with the story. right now i'm joining you in one of the hardest hit homes which was completely devastated by this flood. take a look at this - water as high as a foot, that happened within a 30 minute time period. now the lucero family is packing up everything they own - they don't know what they're going to do next. well we gutted everything - this is the bathroom. kathleen lucero is in disbelief - there's not a square of floor that was spared from over a foot of floodwater. the silt came in to the bedrooms, the bathroom, the kitchen - everything and we had to pull the carpets, everything out. family came to the rescue helping her salvage everything from furniture to family heirlooms. kathleen can't help but feel a certain emptiness - her husband is working out of state and can't be here right now. she says he built their home by hand. he put a lot of hard work into the house and to see it, in just a few hours get damaged, it hurts but like i said i'm glad my children didn't get hurt or anybody else. other homes nearby we're damaged too. acoma emergency management says floodwaters also washed out roads and may have damaged bridges. tonight they say they're bracing for the possibility of another round of storms. the lucero family is ready -- heartbroken but ready -- as they watch their life roll away on a trailer. we have to move forward, you know we can't change it... can't help it - we can't stop mother nature. the lucero family tells me tonight they will be staying at the shelter set up at the sky city casino but as it stands they say they are virtually homeless.
