. the special legislative session begins tod in santa fe... and there are some hot button issues on the agenda. also, legislators will have to work together to pass new redistricting lines this session. sharon erickson joins us with a preview. antoinette... it's been part of the constitution for more than 200 years-- state legislatures must redraw boundary lines every ten years after the new census numbers come out. that will be the focus of the special session... but it's not the only item on the agenda. the idea is to make sure each person in the state is represented as fairly and equally as possible by the legislature. but with just 112 legislative seats to go around... some areas aren't going to be happy about losing their seats to other areas with growing populations. for example-- the city of rio rancho has 90-thousand people and just one representative. compare that to minute thumbnail 06:33 am roswell that has 50-thousand people-- but four representatives. "well its going to be contentious, everybody has, how i say skin in the game. and everybody's ox is being gored in this one. "but i think we can get it done. there's no reason why we can't draw up lines and just say this is as good as we can get. governor martinez also hopes to discuss her plan to stop driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, and to stop social promotion of third graders who can't read at grade level. we'll be at today's special session in santa fe, and bring you the latest from the capitol tonight at five. antoinette?
