All Things Digital is reporting that former eBay CEO Meg Whitman may be named Chief Executive of Hewlett Packard (NYSE:HPQ). Whitman, who had an unsuccessful gubernatorial bid in California, would replace Leo Apotheker who was only head of HP for less than a year. There was some speculation this morning that Apotheker may be ousted due to HP's poor performance during his 11-month tenure. The report states that Whitman may be named after the close of trading today. Whitman would bring a long list of technology contacts to the table and may revive enthusiasm among the workforce.Shares of HP has risen near the highs of day and spiked following the AllThingsDigital report. Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) has a potential upside of 51.3% based on a current price of $23.1 and an average consensus analyst price target of $34.95.
