Rural community inspires nation
July 11, 2007
A rural community in Guatemala which couldn't feed itself six years ago is now a national inspiration. A drought-fueled famine devastated the communities of Guatemala's Chiquimula province in 2001. Scores of people died in the impoverished area which borders Honduras. Six years on, the community has turned its fate around and is now inspiring other rural communities to do likewise. Reuters correspondent Michelle Carlile-Alkhouri filed this report from the area.
