hreatening to inject conflict and controversy into the 30 day legislative session that starts later this month. stuart dyson will cover the session for us. he's here with how a sweet deal could turn sour. lawmakers should be holding hands and singing koom-bye-yah - for the first time in four recession- starved years they have more minute thumbnail 06:00 pm money - not less - to fund state government - but they could come to grief over those licees. governor martinez has made it clear - she'll put the license issue on the agenda for the 30 day session - she didn't get her way in last winter's session - or the special session in october - so she'll try again. martinez wants to dump the state law that allows illegal immigrants to get new mexico licenses - the only state in the country with such a wide-open policy - the debate has consumed entire days of legislative time and threatens to DO SO AGAIN. " I think it's time to look at that again - I'm just saying look - we know what the bill says - we know how we can take care of that - the public out there - if you look at what the discussion is on drivers licenses - everybody wants to make sure than new Mexico is like the other 48 states - almost 49 states." " We found that the people receiving those licenses are not committing cres through the use of these licenses - number one - and minute thumbnail 06:01 pm number two it really is good for law enforcement to have drivers with a drivers license." THE good news is lawmakers will have about a quarter of a billion dollars in new money to either restore services cut in the great recession - or make some tax cuts - or a combination of both. the public schools really want to get their hands on some of that money tom.
