California fires burn out of control

The prospects for containing the blaze remain bleak as the warm dry winds continue to blow and fire-fighters face difficulty getting water onto the flames on steep hills and in canyons. Aircraft were being used to drop water and fire retardant in an effort to stem the spread of the flames.
