Vast swathes of Central and Southern Europe have suffered under a sweltering heatwave that has killed hundreds in Hungary and sparked deadly brush fires in Italy, Greece and the Balkans. Nearly 900 people were reported to have fainted in the streets of Romania, were the mercury shot above 41degrees Celsius (105.8 degrees Fahrenheit) on Tuesday, while neighboring Bulgaria faced 45 degree temperatures, and Hungary's chief medical officer announced more than 500 deaths from the heat in one week.
