Fires ravage island homes

Fire fighters are winning the battle to control massive blazes on Gran Canaria and Tenerife. However, around 12,000 people were forced to leave their homes and vast areas of forest have been destroyed. Local, regional and national authorities have promised compensation, but that's little consolation to those who've seen their home reduced to ashes.
