Mining Disaster in Indonesia
January 29, 2007
An Indonesian mud volcano that has so far displaced about 11,000 people is continuing to pump out a million barrels of mud a day, with no end in sight. Scientists say the disaster was probably triggered by commercial gas drilling. But the government maintains it was a natural disaster, a controversial verdict leaving the lives of thousands of homeless people in limbo. A report from the inundated villages of Surabaya on Java.
