France takes a major step toward a comprehensive anti-smoking ban on Thursday, as legislation comes into force outlawing smoking in offices, public buildings, hospitals and schools. By next year, restaurants, bars and nightclubs will join the list, putting France on a par with Ireland and Italy, Europe's leaders in creating tobacco-free environments.
