Olympic press coverage clashes with China's media policy

China pledged in 2001 to improve human rights and reduce restrictions on media, a promise which helped Beijing win the right to host the 2008 summer Olympic Games. But as the 12-month countdown to the world's biggest sporting event ticked over, Beijing-based journalists felt the heavy hand of local police, while reporting on a press freedom demonstration.
