Beijing bans one million cars in pollution cutback plan

August 20, 2007

There are more than 2.4 million private cars on Beijing's roads, all pumping out carbon dioxide and toxic gases and contributing to make China's capital one of the most polluted cities in the world. The shroud of smog that hangs over China's capital all year long is a serious concern for athletes planning to compete in the Olympic Games that will be held in Beijing in August 2008. In an attempt to reduce the haze, city officials banned one million cars from its roads from Friday in a four-day test run to improve air quality. A voiced report.
