Moroccan Islamists expect poll win
September 08, 2007
Political analysts say the Justice and Development Party (PJD), which ran on an anti-corruption ticket, has a chance of winning cabinet seats if it emerges as the biggest party after Friday's contest between 33 parties. PJD is currently the third largest group in the outgoing parliament, with 42 seats. Friday's poll marked a record low turnout. Political analysts say apathy is rooted in a belief that parliament is made up of politicians from the secular-minded elite who fail to keep the promises they make to get elected.
