Actor Jack Palance dies at 87

Oscar-winning actor Jack Palance, who starred as a heartless gunslinger in the classic western "Shane," died at his California home at age 87, his spokesman said. Palance, who won an Academy Award for playing a tough cowboy in the 1991 comedy "City Slickers,"was surrounded by family when he died at home in Montecito, California, spokesman Dick Guttman said. He made his Broadway debut in 1947 followed by a big-screen debut in 1950's film noir classic "Panic in the Streets," directed by Elia Kazan.
