Abortion poll in Portugal
February 11, 2007
The outcome of a referendum on whether to legalise abortion in the mainly Catholic country is far from certain. The emotive issue has divided the nation. And there are also worries that not enough people will turn out to vote to validate the referendum, as happened in the last poll of its kind in 1998. If the vote doesn't overturn the ban it would mean Portugal remaining among a small group of European countries, including Ireland and Poland, that still ban abortion.
