Ethiopia enters new millennium
September 12, 2007
Ethiopia entered the new millennium on Wednesday, seven years after the rest of the world. The Horn of Africa nation follows the Coptic calendar, a system similar to the Julian calendar set up by Roman ruler Julius Caeser in 46 BC, and which counts 13 months. The rest of the world uses the 12-month Gregorian calendar. Ethiopia set out to mark the date in style, with a myriad of events organised in the capital and throughout the country. An AFPTV voiced report.
