French Editors Defend Mohammed Cartoons in Court
February 08, 2007
A Paris court is hearing a case involving the editors of a French satirical weekly magazine, who are being sued for publishing controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. Those cartoons, one of which featured the prophet wearing a turban that holds a bomb, were originally published in Denmark and fuelled Islamic rage around the world. The French magazine, Charlie Hebdo, has now received backing from Nicolas Sarkozy, France's right-wing presidential hopeful. A news report on the trial. (c) 2006 AFP
