Renault thunders into Iran

September 17, 2007

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has called for European economic sanctions on Iran to put pressure on Tehran over its nuclear policy. This could affect companies like French automobile manufacturer Renault, which has expaneded into Iran, where its Logan range is now being marketed under the brand name Tondar-90 -- "Thunder" in Farsi. Renault's 300-million-dollar venture with Irankhodro, the country's largest carmaker, and Saipa, is the largest investment by a French motor manufacturer in Iran since the Islamic revolution in 1979. The first Tondar-90 was sold in June and Renault aims to build some 300,000 units a year. A voiced report.
