Northern Rock crumbles further

The stock price plunged up to 40 percent Monday, adding to Friday's 31 percent slide, as nervous savers took their money out of the British bank hit by its ability to raise funds in money markets. Northern Rock said it had not yet needed an emergency facility provided by the Bank of England, and despite the slump in public sentiment, it remained solvent.
