Tensions high at Beirut rally
February 14, 2007
Tensions are high in Beirut where tens of thousands of Lebanese government supporters are converging to honour assassinated ex-prime minister Rafik Hariri, who was murdered two years ago. The memorial is as much about rallying support for the beleaguered Lebanese government as it is about commemorating Hariri. Pro-government groups accuse Syria and its Lebanese allies of murdering Hariri and being behind a campaign to topple the Western-backed Lebanese government.
