Darfur Crisis at France-Africa Summit

The leaders of Africa have long expressed exasperation with the negative image their continent has beyond its shores. This year's France-Africa summit in the Mediterranean resort of Cannes proved no exception, with the head of the African Union lamenting the doom and gloom associated with Africa. President Jacques Chirac took pains to highlight the continents resources and potential. Hotspots such as Darfur, however, remained at centre stage on the French Riviera. A voiced report. (c) 2006 AFP
