Melanie Bloom never envisioned herself taking center stage on an important public health issue. But after her husband, NBC correspondent David Bloom, died in Iraq from complications related to deep-vein thrombosis, she felt the need to speak out. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Bloom has joined the coalition to prevent deep-vein thrombosis. She is participating in a national public education campaign with a simple message: know what triggers d-v-t and talk to your doctor if you think you're at risk.
