Cuba marks the year of the pig
February 20, 2007
Cuba s Chinese community dates back to the mid-19th Century, when hundreds of thousands of agricultural workers from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Some of them stayed on after their contracts, helping Havana s Chinatown to become the largest in Latin America. Although its pure Chinese populations has shrunk dramatically, the beginning of the propitious year of the golden pig provides an opportunity to celebrate a rich heritage. (c) 2006 AFP
