Deciding Kosovo's future

As Serbs and ethnic Albanians prepare for final talks on a UN plan on Kosovo's future status, the plan's architect says chan... UN envoy Marti Ahtisaari's blueprint for Serbia's breakaway province puts Kosovo on a path to independence under European Union supervision. But Serbia's rejected it. It wants to keep an autonomous Kosovo in its fold, within its borders. Ninety percent of Kosovo's two million people are ethnic Albanians. They've been under U.N. administration since 1999 after a Serb counter-insurgency war that killed 10,000 and drove out almost one million. The two sides in Vienna will have until mid-March to lodge complaints before Ahtisaari sends a final version of his plan to the UN Security Council.
